    Replacing a 77 y/o drain assembly

Posted by Old Concrete Sink Owner on Dec 11th 2020

The tailpiece, bracket and bolts, finally needed to be replaced on my 77 y/o concrete utility sink. After searching high and low, and even considering use of a trumpeted motorcycle exhaust tip as a tailpiece, I finally found and ordered the kit from Chicago Faucet Shoppe. The kit itself has everything needed to complete the job. The fluted tailpiece and gasket fit perfectly against the inwardly tapered flange and the flange bracket is a sturdy and true fit. Also, the SOS Plasti-Putti is some really good stuff. If the flange on my sink, literally set in stone, hadn't been so corroded it would have been a quick job using only the parts provided in the kit. Once the aged flange was prepared, T-bolt channels reclaimed, it was a 10 minute job to set the new T-bolts, tailpiece, gasket, and bracket. In short my experience with Chicago Faucet Shoppe, order to receipt, has been excellent and now my concrete utility sink can look forward to another 77 years of service :)

Flange cracked with minimal torque during install

Posted by Unknown on Dec 11th 2020

Although I was very happy to find a product that would allow me to repair my daughter’s utility sink, I was very distraught when the flange cracked during installation. I used very minimal tongue (just a little more than finger-tighten) when the flange snapped. The flange seemed to be made from cheaper and thinner material (cast) than the original flange. I ended up polishing and re-using the original flange to make the repair.
